Mission BlueMission Blue is a Pacifica-based band delivering traditional bluegrass flavored with classic folk and country material reinterpreted into the bluegrass style. If you are a bluegrass fan you’ll be more than satisfied with the band’s faithfulness to this uniquely American music form. If you are new to bluegrass, you’ll find Mission Blue’s performances an accessible and enjoyable introduction. The band has been entertaining audiences in California and Oregon since 2018 and is led by the dad and daughter duo of Avram and Dana Frankel. Mission Blue’s coastside roots run deep. Dana was raised in Pacifica, began playing fiddle at the age of 5, and is recognized as the one of the top bluegrass fiddlers in California. Avram, a longtime fixture on the California bluegrass scene, served on the Pacifica School District governing board when the district transferred the old Sanchez Elementary School to the City of Pacifica. This act facilitated the creation of what is now the Pacifica Center for the Arts, which houses both the Sanchez Art Center and Mildred Owen Concert Hall, home of Pacifica Performances. Dana and Avram are joined by Sam Reed on banjo and David Thiessen on mandolin from Sonoma County who both grew up playing bluegrass with Dana. Veteran doghouse bass man Tom Sours, also of Sonoma County, rounds out the group. Buckle up for an evening of hard driving and heartfelt acoustic music!
